Quitándonos nuestra cultura puertorriqueña para mantenernos colonizados / Taking away our Puerto Rican culture to keep us a colony

 

El miércoles 18 de septiembre de 2013 a las 7 PM, el Movimiento Unión Soberanía celebró un foro público sobre cultura en el Colegio de Abogados de Puerto Rico en Miramar, Puerto Rico.  Los panelista fueron la Dra. Margarita Ostolaza, el Dr. Miguel Rodríguez, el Prof. Roberto Ramos Perea y el Prof. Javier Hernández. 

El mensaje central para mi fue que el gobierno de Estados Unidos a través del gobierno llamado Estado Libre Asociado hace imposible la manifestación de la cultura puertorriqueña.   Mientras los demás panelistas hablaron de estratégicas y/o propuestas para lidiar con dicha oposición, el Prof. Ramos Parea enfatizó que tal esfuerzo seria perder el tiempo.  El gobierno simplemente no le interesa que se manifieste la cultura puertorriqueña, porque entre menos seamos puertorriqueños, más fácil seria mantenernos colonizados.

Ante esta realidad, mi propuesta seria que cada puertorriqueños conciente de esta situación, debe dejar de buscar el apoyo del gobierno para impulsar nuestra cultura.  Debemos a su vez cada buscar la forma de educarnos sobre nuestra historia y cultura para hacer posible nuestra descolonización.  Así yo lo he hecho con este blog.  Como dice el Fondo de Mejoramiento, no se puede querer lo que se desconoce.

¡Únete a 2 protestas pacíficas al año hasta que se descolonice a Puerto Rico, porque los que practican el colonialismo no creen el la justicia para todos! 
 

 

On Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at 7PM, the United for Sovereignty Movement (MUS) celebrated a forum about culture at the Puerto Rico Bar Association building in Miramar, Puerto Rico.  The members of the panel were Dr. Margarita Ostolaza, Dr. Miguel Rodriguez, Prof. Roberto Ramos Perea and Prof. Javier Hernandez.

The main message to me was that the United States government through what is referred to as the Common Wealth of Puerto Rico makes it impossible the genuine and natural manifestation of our Puerto Rican culture.  While others offered ideas or proposals to get around the government’s impediment, Prof. Ramos Perea emphasized that that would be a waste of time.  The less Puerto Ricans are able to express our culture, the easier it is to keep us a colony.

In the light of this reality, mi proposal is that everyone who is aware of this situation should stop trying to get the government to help us promote our culture.  Instead, we should take it upon ourselves to find ways to educate Puerto Ricans about our history and culture so that decolonization could be possible.  This is what I have done with this blog.  Like the “Fondo de Mejoramiento” says, you can’t love what you don’t know. 

Join us in 2 peaceful protests a year until Puerto Rico is decolonized.  The protests are crucial, because those who practice colonialism don’t believe in justice for all!
